Small laundry room storage: measure before you organize
Plan shelves, narrow carts, and laundry baskets around appliance clearance and everyday routines.
Keep appliances accessible
Measure the available storage area with appliance doors fully open. Leave the ventilation and service clearance required by the appliance manufacturer. A shelf or cart must not block a dryer vent, water shutoff, electrical connection, or walking route.
Size baskets around real loads
Compare basket width and depth with the shelf or floor space where it will live. Check whether handles add to the overall dimensions and whether a lid needs extra opening space. A collapsible basket can save room between loads, but verify its capacity and care instructions.
Compare narrow carts carefully
Measure the tightest gap beside an appliance and allow space for the wheels and handle. Check the overall cart height, shelf spacing, and stated load capacity. Store heavier items low and follow stability and assembly instructions.
Keep supplies identifiable
Keep detergents and other cleaning products in their original labeled packaging and follow their storage instructions. Use an accessible grouping system for adults while keeping products away from children and pets. Leave enough room to wipe shelves and notice leaks.
